The following article is illustrated by pictures taken by our photographers when they were playing at the Zenith in Paris, the 17th of April 2007. Also some picture taken in London in June.

But where did they come from? How did this all start?

When he was only 13 years old, Bill Kaulitz took part in the show "Star Search", he lost in the quarter finals. He is noticed by music producers who took interest into his group "Devilish", which was formed by him, his twin brother Tom who plays Guitar, and their two friend Gustav and George, who play Bass and Drums. They are later signed to Universal Music and become Tokio Hotel. They release their first single "Durch Den Monsun" which propels them to the top of the billboard charts in Germany when they aren't even 15!! But the success doesn't stop there, they are a huge success all over Europe!

In France the wave hit us on Septembre 27th 2006, when they made a performance at Fnac St Lazarre (I have no idea where/what that is), we were present at this show, the fans went crazy and the police had to escort the 2000 fans out. (It says something along the lines of that sorry for the crappy translation).

"We don't want to stop, our fans our waiting for us outside" said Bill, meanwhile Gustav is pacing around the Meet and Greet room that we are stuck in. Later on a security officer came in and told us that in 10 years of service he's never seen a crowd so wild. It was supposed to be a private show, no one expected such a large amount of people! That's when France understood that something was happenning. The guys then played a couple small venues before Zenith, in front of a bigger audience. This concert on April 17th was greatly appreciated. The was also a success in Poland, Italy, Spain, and Russia. Presently they are working on England and U.S.A, to become a big success they re-recorded most of their biggest hits in English. Their English album "Scream" was released the 4th of Juin in Europe. A few days earlier they released their album in Germany under the title "Room 483". What will the English fans think? We can remember what a big hit Rammstein was when they embarked on the same journey. The 18th of Juin we embarked on a flight to London, England we have an appointement with the young Germans in their hotel for an exclusive interview. The building isn't that bad, 5 stars near Tamise.

Rock Picks: Hello, we have an appointement with Tokio Hotel
Receptionist: Who's that?

R-P: You know the German rock group?
Receptionists: No, sorry I don't see them...

R-P: You didn't see some guy walk through here wearing mascara and a really bizarre hairdo?
Receptionist: Ah yes! He's at the bar right now, follow me.

That's when we are taken to the bar where we find the twins, even before we could say hello to the twins we are whisked away by the bodyguard Saki Pelka (SAKI!!!!!! xD) who takes us to room 604. We get 30 minutes to prepare for the interview and the photoshoot to come, we make the beds, rearrange the curtains... And we wait. The door opens suddenly and in comes Tom running and laughing followed by Bill, Gustav, and George, the managers, the bodyguards, the translator, and the makeup artist.

Now that the photoshoot is done, the interview can start.

R-P: Hello, how are you?
Bill: We're doing good, we just arrived from Paris, and tomorrow we're going to give our first concert in England. It's really excited and we're really happy to be here today!

R-P: Do you prefer exciting interviews or boring ones?
Tom: A mix would be nice!

Bill: It depends on the question...

Wonderful, let's go for a mix then! So, why have you chosen to sing in English and what are you expecting from England?
Bill (answering derectly withought waiting for the German translation): We did this album in English because we think it's important that everyone can understand our lyrics, people often have trouble with German, which is why we translated the album. I'm used to singing in German so singing in English was a big adventure for me, it was a big challenge, and I passed it, today we are really happy that we did it. We are all really satisfied with this album. When we play on the radio we would like for people to be able to understand our message, even if our fans who aren't lazy become interested in German and translate our lyrics, which is a brilliant idea. But we said to ourselves, let's be our own models, because we are super lazy, we don't like other languages at all, so let's do something for our lazy fans, we're going to give them a hand so that they can understand our message. But I'm still going to keep on writing our songs in German because that's my mother tongue and it's what I'm best at.

R-P: You recently released a video for your English single "Scream", you sued the same decor, and people as you did for your German single "Schrei" which you released two years ago, didn't you feel as if you were going back in time?

Bill: Obviously it was very strange, it was like a deja-vu to redo the same video. It was as if we travelled 2 years back in time, because it had the same people that were in it the first time. It was weird but at the same time great because it was a awesome experience and we felt really great, we felt like going back to our debuts because "Schrei" was our second single.

R-P: What are you expecting from the English public?

Bill: We aren't starting off like that, we aren't going into thinking that we're going to be as famous here as we were in Germany or France we aren't expecting taht to happen everywhere we go.

Tom: The last six months we have really been answering our fans demands, we went where they wanted us to go. Last week we were in Spain and in France, now we're in the U-K, but that doesn't mean that we are going to be as successfull here as we were in Germany. We're really lucky to be able to tour all of Europe like this.

R-P: You are going to be giving your first show in England tomorrow, what do you think of that?

All together, a direct answer withought waiting for the German translator: Yeah!!

Bill: We're really nervous, it's our first concert here, and it's the first time we're going to be playing in front of our English fans, it's also the first time we will be singing a whole concert in English. It's really exciting and stressfull at the same time!

R-P: Now I would like you guys to introduce yourselves to our readers, but instead of you guys intriducing yourselves you are going to introduce the person sitting to the right of you, so Gustav, you are to the right of me so you start

Gustav: Well Tom...
Tom: is hot!

Gustav: Tom is really in love with himself, he sleeps a lot, he is very ambitious, he is perfectionnist, he always trys to reach the top, he always tries...

Tom: But what is this that you are talking about?! I've already reached the top!!! You wait until I talk about you...
R-P:Non, you have to talk about Georg, he is to the right of you.

Tom: Ok, Georg. If you want to know something about Georg, the best thing to do is not go and see him! Because we can't count on him.

Bill: Exactly

Georg: That's a lie!

Tom: He's always late, he sleeps in, he tries to play bass. It takes a lot of effort and he tries hard because he would really like to play this inrtument very well but even after all of his efforts he's not... He's also the most crooked looking guy we've ever seen! We could spend whole days sitting, looking at Georg, he would give us our dose of laughs for the day.

Georg: Bill is the most egotistic person I've ever met. He is very egotistic, he is also a perfectionnist, if something isn't going right, he can scream really loud and become incontrolable.

Tom: Ya but if Bill loves everyone, he can't be that egotistic.

Georg: But that's the problem! The only people he loves are himself and Tom!

Bill: Honestly, I'm a very nice person, I always try to help other people. Some people even say I'm to nice! And that I should be a bit meaner.

Georg: Pfff!

Bill: Gustav is very reserved, very quiet. But when you really get to know him he's very fun and it's awesome to be with him. You can always count on him! He's always on time, but sometimes he can be a bit...feminine. In German we call this Zimtzicke, (in German Zicke means Doe).

Tom: If you want to give him a super birthday present, give him a T-Shirt that says "Going with Zicke".

Gustav: I'm just more sensible, that's all.
R-P: Here we are in England, where John Lennon was born. You did a cover of one of his songs, Instant Karma, why?

Bill: It was for charity, we heard about it and were interested, so when they asked us about it we didn't hesitate. It was for Human Rights, and that's something that we are very grateful for and that we take advantage of every day. We are the kind of people that need to be free, we need our rights and we don't want to be told what to do. We are against people telling us what to do, we hate that and it drives us crazy. To be able to use music to tell people how important this freedom is is the best gift that we can give. We had never done a cover before, and we had no intentions on doing any, it's one of those things, but because it was for Amnesty International we decided to do one. Plus, it's a great song and it really goes with my voice, it was awesome to cover!

Tom: Our version was more rock than the original one, we gave it the typical Tokio Hotel touch, we really loved working on this song.

R-P:It's true that this song is more agressive than your usual music. Gustav, you are a fan of Metallica, did you try and convince the guys to go with some harder music?

Gustav: Yes, it's true that I really like taht kind of music, but not like a fan. To be honnest, sure I try to give the tempo but if you listen to songs like Schrei, Ich Brech Aus and Wo Sind Eure Hande, you can hear that they are stronger. I also take advantages of concerts when I make myself the boss and set the rythm.

Tom: You know, in Tokio Hotel, we all have different tastes in music, the music taht we make is what we have in common. We all comtribut eto something different. It's typical that Tokio Hotel makes ballads but we also know very agressive guitar riffs.
R-P: What do you think of the English rock scene?

Tom: There are a lot of very talented bands from England, like Coldplay, it's one of my favorite
bands. We met them two years ago at the MTV music awards in Lisbonne and it was really awesome to meet them, the others agree with me.

Bill: I really like Placebo, son we are going to be playing with them and Marilyn Manson at a festival in France, I'm excited. But there are definetly some really good English bands here in England. England is the country of musique, historically speaking.

R-P: Here we also have Harry Potter mania. In France it's Tokio Hotel Mania, did you know taht on the internet there is a fan site dedicated to your bodyguard Saki, taht the fans call Harry Potter?
All together (are laughing super hard): HAHAHAHA Noooooo?

Bill: Now that's news, we had no idea!
R-P: When you were in Paris, three days ago, for the M6 concert, Saki got up on stage before the show. There was party music on and he was singing as if he was Bill! The fans put up a video of it on the internet and a lot of people said that he was sexy! Their even calling him "sexy man"!!

Bill: Haha excellent!!

Tom: We're going to have to go and check that out!

Georg: No really, that's too funny!

(As if it was magical, Saki openned the door and checks to make sure that everyone's doing ok, the door closes after a few seconds and he disapears)

Georg: Hey Harry!

Bill and Tom (dying of laughter): Hey Harry! Hwo's it going?
R-P: Georg, this next questions for you, we saw that you were taking driving lessons, can you tell us a bit more about that?

Georg: It was last Octobre, on a TV show where we played a few songs, I just participated in the course, something taht I will never do again!

Tom: Yeah, you lost everything! You really were very bad.

Georg: Not true!!

Bill: Yeah, and you almost came in last!

Tom: But we were behind him the whole time, we gave him a lot of encouragement.

Georg: In fact, there were three sourses, for the first one I came in second out of eight drivers. Everyone came to comgradulate me like "Yeah, congrats Georg, good show, your a good driver, ect..." Afterward I lost and everyone was there like "Wow Georg you're so horrible, shame on you!" And afterwards they say that they were behind me.

R-P: No but seriously, admit it, did you secretly engourage him so that he would crash and you would have to change bassits?

Bill (dying from laughter): Yes, yes, yes!

Tom: He played really badly at that show so we said "Go on Georg, take the test!"

Bill: In fact, he didn't have the courage to do it, he was chicken!

Tom: We wanted to do it ourselves, but we couldn't we were too young, we really wanted to but because of the insurance the TV station wouldn't let us.

Georg: I was the only one old enough to drive, and I was definetly the ONLY one that could drive!

Bill: We don't have our drivers licenses.

The interview comes to a close, the guys get their room back, but only after they have said "Bye!" and "We're off to find Harry Potter!!"

The rest is basically a conclusion to an interview and it talks about the fans. I would translate it but it's getting late here in Canada and I've already been doing this for like 2 hours : p I'll try and to the rest tomorrow or the day after. Enjoy!!
